How can counselling help?
People come to counselling for many reasons — stress, anxiety, low mood, relationship difficulties, grief, life transitions, or simply wanting to understand themselves better. You don’t have to wait until things feel “bad enough.” If something is troubling you, it’s worth talking about.
How do I know if counselling is right for me?
If you’ve been feeling stuck, anxious, overwhelmed, or unsure how to move forward, counselling can give you a safe, confidential, non-judgmental space to explore your thoughts and feelings. We’ll work together at your pace, focusing on what matters most to you.
How do you work?
I offer sessions via Zoom, telephone, or walking therapy in and around North Berwick — or a combination of these, depending on what works best for you.
How will I know if you’re the right counsellor for me?
I offer a free initial brief call, Zoom meeting, or walk so we can get to know each other. I’ll ask a few questions about what brings you here and what you’d like to get out of counselling. You’re welcome to share as much or as little as you feel comfortable with. It’s also your chance to see if I’m the right fit for you. If you decide to go ahead, we’ll arrange your first session.
How often will we meet?
Most clients come weekly at first, but we can discuss what works best for you. I understand that cost, work, or family commitments may mean weekly isn’t practical. Some people come fortnightly or monthly. I work flexibly — there’s no need to commit to a fixed day and time if that’s difficult.
Do you offer evenings and weekends?
I offer appointments Monday to Thursday, with sessions starting from 9am and finishing by 6:30pm. I don’t currently offer weekend sessions.
How much does it cost and how do I pay?
Sessions are £60 for approximately 50 minutes. Payment can be made by bank transfer or PayPal in advance.
What if I don’t feel comfortable?
If you feel we’re not a good match, that’s absolutely okay. I can help you find another counsellor who might suit you better.
How long will it take to feel better?
Some clients feel an improvement quite quickly. This can happen even after a single session. This is especially true if we’re focusing on a specific situation and you just need space to talk things through. Others take longer if we’re exploring something in depth or working with ongoing challenges. There’s no minimum or maximum number of sessions. We’ll review as we go along and continue for as long as it’s helpful.
Where would we walk?
I’m happy to choose a local location that works well for you. I often walk along the broad sands at Yellowcraig or the East Beach at North Berwick which offer quiet, easy walking. Around North Berwick Law is another good option, with a bench and a beautiful view along the way.
What if it rains?
A popular question! I have a good jacket and wellies, so I’m happy to walk in most weathers if you are. If the weather is too unpleasant, we can reschedule or meet on Zoom or by telephone — whichever you prefer.
